STEM demonstration adds spark to Preview Day
Oct. 17, 2017 La Grande, Ore. − Color-changing crystals highlight a day of on-campus activities for prospective students Nov. 11 at Eastern Oregon University.
EOU’s annual STM Preview Day invites high school and transfer students to spend a Saturday touring campus, learning about financial aid, and interacting with current students — all with a special focus on science, technology and math.
Faculty members and students will coordinate an interactive session, engaging visitors with a hands-on experiment that explores the interaction of light and liquid crystals. Up to 50 students will explore the wave-like nature of light, using liquid crystals to make panels change color.
Students from EOU’s award-winning Chemistry Club will be on-hand, and information about the ASTEO Scholarship will also be available.
Preview Day is open to all prospective students, including those interested in majors outside the College of Science, Technology, Math and Health Science. Exclusive scholarships are available for students who attend a Preview Day event and later enroll at EOU.
Events begin and 8:30 a.m., and conclude in time to attend the afternoon football game. Pre-registration is required. Learn more about this and other Preview Days at eou.edu/admissions/preview-days.
