LA GRANDE, Ore. – Eastern Oregon University’s Outdoor Adventure Program is organizing two East Track outings for students, faculty and staff this September. Registrations are being accepted now for a five-day backpacking trip and a five-day whitewater rafting trip. Space is limited and early reservations are recommended.

This five-day backpacking trip follows the 23-mile Elkhorn Crest National Recreation Trail in northeast Oregon. Ramble along the 8,000-foot backbone of the majestic Elkhorn Range past magnificent peaks, high alpine meadows and camp by crystalline lakes – a sensational experience that will make memories to last a lifetime.
DATES: September 12-16 STUDENT LIMIT: 10 FITNESS LEVEL: Moderate COST: $150
This 50-mile, multi-day whitewater rafting trip explores the Lower Deschutes River in central Oregon. The river flows through high desert with stunning cliffs of towering basalt, rolls over Class ll and Class lll rapids, and has plenty of calmer sections to relax, soak up the sun, and share good times with new friends.
DATES: September 18-22 STUDENT LIMIT: 12 FITNESS LEVEL: Easy COST: $300
“These trips are an excellent and fun way for incoming freshmen to meet other students, learn about EOU and the surrounding area, make new friends and start building a community,” said Michael Hatch, Outdoor Program coordinator. “East Tracks also offer fantastic opportunities for personal growth and development, and will help ease the transition into college life.”
