January 3, 2014 LA GRANDE, Ore. (EOU) – Jerry Isaak, coordinator of EOU’s Outdoor Program, is aiming to define the influence of social media and technology on risk-taking and decision-making.
Isaak will give a free workshop on “Risky Business: Millennials, Social Media & Risk Management in Outdoor Education” for the colloquium at 4 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 9 in Ackerman Hall, Room 210. A reception with question and answer session will follow.
As an adjunct instructor of physical education and sport, Isaak believes the growth of online communities and social identity combined with new technology requires a shift in the way outdoor educators approach the topics of risk management and decision-making. His workshop also seeks solutions to the challenge of a possible digital divide between digital natives (students) and immigrants (instructors).
