LA GRANDE, Ore. (EOU) – Eastern Oregon University’s 45th Parallel Ensemble, co-directed by Music Professors John McKinnon and Matt Cooper, will perform two concerts this term.
The first is an open dress rehearsal at 3 p.m. Friday, March 6 in Groth Recital Hall in Loso Hall, Room 126. The second concert is at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, March 12, also in Groth Recital Hall.
The group features three vocalists, piano, three guitarists, accordion, bass, drums, percussion, trombone, trumpet, saxes and flute. The concert repertoire includes a French song, two Duke Ellington compositions, a jazz-rock composition by trumpeter Freddie Hubbard, a piece by Frank Zappa from his 1973 album “Hot Rats,” Herbie Hancock’s jazz-rock mood piece “Butterfly,” Cannonball Adderley’s soul jazz “Hamba Nami” and a vocal number from the Lyle Lovett band book.
