January 30, 2014 LA GRANDE, Ore. (EOU) – EOU is hosting the 2014 Future Business Leaders of America Regional Skills Conference Thursday, Feb. 6.
The event is expected to draw 460 students from 15 eastern Oregon high schools, all competing for a spot among the top 10 finishers who will advance to the state conference in Portland this spring.
Agribusiness, insurance and risk management are new areas of focus in the competition this year. Other events in public and impromptu speaking, job interviewing – 40 different tests in all – are designed to assess students’ knowledge and aptitude.
Students competing are from Baker, Condon, Elgin, John Day, Helix, Heppner, Imbler, Joseph, La Grande, Nyssa, Ontario, Pendleton, Stanfield, Union and Vale.
Results will be announced at a public awards assembly at 12:30 p.m. in McKenzie Theatre in Loso Hall.
