{"id":70,"date":"2013-10-06T20:00:55","date_gmt":"2013-10-06T20:00:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.eou.edu\/math\/?page_id=70"},"modified":"2024-02-21T17:37:17","modified_gmt":"2024-02-21T17:37:17","slug":"math-bee","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.eou.edu\/math\/math-bee\/","title":{"rendered":"Math Bee"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The Math Bee is an event for Pre-Agebra and Algebra I students only.&nbsp; Similar to a spelling bee, but students try and solve math problems instead of spelling a word.&nbsp; The following is a basic description of the contest, directions will be given the day of the event.&nbsp; Here are examples of both <a title=\"Example of Pre-Alg Math Bee Questions\" href=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/file\/d\/0B8Nlk4S8d80ZUGVUUzlUQk5OSzA\/edit?usp=sharing\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Pre-Algebra<\/a> and <a title=\"Example of Alg I Math Bee Questions\" href=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/file\/d\/0B8Nlk4S8d80ZcmR1cFREQW5TSmc\/edit?usp=sharing\">Algebra I<\/a> Math Bee questions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><b>Round One<\/b><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Facilitator posts the first problem of Round One on overhead\/document camera.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Set timer for 2 minutes. &nbsp;Students work problem on their own, put pencils down when finished.&nbsp; Facilitator has the right to be creative with the actual time allowed for each problem but without going over the two-minute time limit.&nbsp; If all students finish early, the facilitator can call time early.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>When timer goes off, facilitator calls \u201cTime! Pencils Down!\u201d<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Facilitator then works through the problem on the overhead projector\/document camera, explaining her\/his thinking as she\/he proceeds, concluding with a clearly stated solution.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The college student helpers will then move along the rows of students to mark the game cards with correct answers using the special markers.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Proceed to second problem of Round One and repeat process. &nbsp;Repeat with third problem of Round One.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>At conclusion of Round One, identify those students who got at least two problems correct.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Those students who did not get at least two of three problems correct will move to the back\u2014their Math Bee participation is over. &nbsp;The students must leave their game cards at their vacated seats.&nbsp;<b><br><\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><b>Round Two<\/b><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Round Two starts.
