She teaches courses that prepare students with a comprehensive understanding of public health practices, including needs assessments, program planning and implementation, and evaluation methods. Her teaching emphasizes the use of behavior change theory to improve both individual and community health outcomes.<br>Dr. McNeil brings professional experience as both a public health practitioner and researcher. Her work focuses on community-based participatory approaches that support diverse populations, with a strong emphasis on utilizing the natural environment for health promotion. She leads and evaluates community-wide interventions designed to encourage healthy and safe behaviors.<br>One of her signature initiatives is the <strong>Get Outside After School Activity Program (GO-ASAP)<\/strong>, which promotes social connectedness, self-efficacy, and connection to nature among adolescents. In addition to her academic work, she is an avalanche forecaster and instructor, and a program evaluator dedicated to assessing the effectiveness of public health programs.<br>Her current research focuses on integrating public health theory and practices into avalanche education and safety messaging. She is particularly interested in evaluating the effectiveness of avalanche education programs, applying behavior change theory to understand the adoption of avalanche safety behaviors, and analyzing trends in avalanche safety practices over time.\u00a0<br>Dr. McNeil is passionate about outdoor recreation.
