{"id":1624,"date":"2023-05-01T10:50:09","date_gmt":"2023-05-01T17:50:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.eou.edu\/fye\/?page_id=1624"},"modified":"2023-05-01T10:50:09","modified_gmt":"2023-05-01T17:50:09","slug":"fye-mission-guiding-principles","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.eou.edu\/fye\/fye-mission-guiding-principles\/","title":{"rendered":"FYE Mission &#038; Guiding Principles"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Mission<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>First Year Experience supports first year students at EOU through their transition into higher education by providing services, programming, and courses that foster student confidence, agency, and integrity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Guiding Principles<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Collaboration<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Individuals and departments who work with first year students build cross-departmental partnerships and work together to remove silos and barriers to student success.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Equity and Access<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>We recognize and identify systemic inequities that disrupt student potential and success and create opportunities to foster equitable access to learning.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Strategic intentionality<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>We use research, data, and other evidence to guide decision-making and programming and strive for excellence through relevance and quality over convenience and quantity.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Goals<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Goal 1: Students will participate in a culture of community<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Students will build relationships with faculty, advisors, and support service staff<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Students will identify and evaluate the expectations placed on them as members of the scholarly community<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Students will identify with and become involved in the academic, co-curricular, and social domains of the EOU community<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Students will engage in reflective and collaborative practices to explore their identities and responsibilities in the EOU community<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Students will demonstrate openness to new perspectives in a diverse world<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Goal 2: Students will develop knowledge, skills, and dispositions that promote academic and personal growth<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Students will select a program of study that is consistent with their academic and career goals&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Students will make measurable efforts to advance skill in writing, reading, critical thinking, communication, research, and study skills<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Students will develop the confidence, knowledge, and self-advocacy skills to access support services for academic improvement<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Mission First Year Experience supports first year students at EOU through their transition into higher education by providing services, programming, and courses that foster student confidence, agency, and integrity.
