Steps to Apply

Steps To Apply For Financial Aid

Step 1

If you are a first time FAFSA filer, go to the US Department of Education’s PIN web site and apply for your PIN.  You can use your PIN to sign your FAFSA on the web.  If you are a dependent financial aid applicant (this means that you must have parents complete information on the FAFSA and one parent must sign your FAFSA), have one of your parents go to the PIN website and apply for a PIN.

Step 2

Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) by applying as soon after January 1st as possible.  Fill out the FAFSA on the Web worksheet before you do your FAFSA on the web.  The worksheet will help you as you go through the on line process.

Step 3

Make sure that you list the colleges and universities that you want your FAFSA to go to on your FAFSA on the web.  EOU’s federal school code is 003913.

Step 4

After you submit your FAFSA on the web, you will receive an output document called a Student Aid Report.  You can view and print your Student Aid Report and make sure that your information is correct.  Follow the directions on the FAFSA on the web site to view and print your Student Aid Report.

Step 5

Watch your email or mail box for communication from the colleges and universities listed on your FAFSA.  Sometimes, your college or university financial aid office will request additional documents before your financial aid offer can be finalized.  It is very important that your college or university gets updated information from you about address or email changes.  Many colleges now require that students use their college email to check for information requests.  See our Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) page for information about what happens after you apply.
