A typical Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing (MFA) financial aid package will be a combination of loans that should meet 100% of your cost of attendance. Cost of attendance includes tuition and fees, residency room and board, room and board for home residence, books, laptop, transportation, and miscellaneous expenses. MFA students can borrow up to $20,500 per academic year from the Federal Direct Unsubsidized Loan. If students have a need beyond the $20,500 academic year limit of Direct Unsubsidized Loan, the Direct Lending Program offers Graduate PLUS loans or students can consider private loans from various lenders.
Students applying to the Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing (MFA) program should fill out and submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) through the FAFSA.gov web site as soon as possible, after October 1st of each year. Be sure to list Eastern Oregon University (EOU) to receive a copy of your FAFSA, by adding EOU’s federal school code of 00319300 to your FAFSA. Do not wait to be accepted into the MFA program to apply for financial aid.
We strongly encourage completing your FAFSA online. This enables you to get your Student Aid Report (SAR) the quickest, and the online application has built-in edits to catch simple errors. If needed, paper FAFSA forms are available online at financialaidtoolkit.ed.gov or by calling 1-800-4-FED-AID.
Eastern Oregon University (EOU) participates in the Federal Direct Lending Program. This program offers incoming Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing (MFA) students unsubsidized loans. These loans begin accruing interest on disbursed funds immediately. The interest rate is fixed.
These loans also have a fixed interest rate and accrue interest on disbursed funds immediately. Applicants must meet credit approval. Apply at studentloans.gov.
These variable and fixed interest rate loans are offered by lenders and institutions for educational expenses. These loans are not guaranteed student loans – lenders and institutions have varying credit approval criteria that must be met by loan applicants. Private student loans cannot be consolidated into Direct Loans. To get you started, you may research a sampling of lenders at FastChoice.
