August 7, 2020 – Resumption Digest

Dear EOU Community,

This week, I wanted to share a brief update on the work of the Space and Logistics Team toward ensuring adequate physical distance in classrooms and other spaces this fall, and a health reminder to everyone about hand-washing. We continue to ask students, faculty and staff  for input and feedback regarding EOU’s resumption planning and encourage you to visit the resumption website and submit questions on the site, or bring them up with your supervisor.

Space and logistics update

The space and logistics team (aka Space Force) is working to support the return to campus in the fall. The team is responsible for social distance marking, signage, wayfinding, technology for synchronous delivery, and capacity-based scheduling of course locations. Team members are working with stakeholders across campus and beyond to accomplish this work.

The focus this week has been on plans for use of outdoor spaces (weather dependent) and exploring the use of the La Grande Armory in addition to other alternative campus spaces for in-person instruction.

The team provided safe teaching and learning spaces for College of Education faculty to return to campus this week with 88 students in the Master of Arts in Teaching program cohort. Today, the in-person instruction for the cohort concluded. We will provide more details about their successful experience next week after the resumption team has had an opportunity to debrief with faculty and students.

Hand washing technique

Wearing masks and conducting daily self-checks go hand-in-hand with the tried-and-true hygienic practices we all rely on. Hand-washing is a key component of maintaining a healthy campus environment.

Wash your hands when you return home from a public space, after using the bathroom and before preparing food. Proper hand-washing takes at least 20 seconds, and includes scrubbing your palms, wrists, fingers and thumbs with soap under warm water. If you can’t use soap and water, use hand sanitizer with 60% to 95% alcohol content.

Avoid touching your face, and frequently disinfect high-touch surfaces like doorknobs and cell phones.

Wishing you a pleasant weekend.

Sincerely,

Sarah Witte
