July 20, 2020 – Athletics postponed until the spring term

EOU Community, 

For this week’s Resumption Plan message, I wanted to share an important update with the university community regarding the fall season for our intercollegiate athletics programs. 

Earlier today, a majority vote by the Council of Presidents of the Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) led to the difficult decision that all CCC fall intercollegiate sports seasons will be postponed to 2021. EOU’s leadership agrees with, and supports the decision. 

Women’s volleyball, men’s and women’s cross-country, men’s and women’s soccer and men’s and women’s golf will all be delayed. EOU football, which plays in the Frontier Conference, will also be moved to the spring season, although that conference has not yet finalized its plans. Southern Oregon University and the College of Idaho are also moving their football seasons to next year.  

EOU will incorporate this schedule change into it’s comprehensive resumption plans, which were designed to adapt with changing situations. Each university in the conference will have autonomy to conduct practices, weight training, conditioning and other team activities in accordance with campus, local and state policies, as well as the NAIA-approved 24-week period. 

Committees within the conference, made up of coaches and administrators, will begin working on revised schedules and setting standard start dates for each sport to begin practices. Outside competition in all CCC sports is also suspended until at least Nov. 1, and will be reevaluated at that time.  

No decisions were made regarding winter sports. The conference will continue to monitor the COVID-19 situation and if necessary, winter sports could be adjusted as well.

This is a difficult decision for our teams, student-athletes, coaches and fans. However, we must remain committed to the health, safety and success of our students and the entire EOU community.
