June 15, 2020 – Resumption Planning

Dear EOU Community,

As announced during this week’s Virtual Chat Room, the EOU Leadership Team will provide updates on EOU’s resumption planning on Friday afternoons during the summer break. These weekly messages will assist in keeping the EOU community informed on our university-wide planning process.

Our priorities continue to be focused on the health and well-being of the EOU community and the academic progress of our students. We are committed to the resumption of on-campus, in-person instruction, research and residential activities for Fall Term 2020, in accordance with guidance from the Oregon Health Authority (OHA) and local public health officials.

On Friday, June 12, the Governor issued Executive Order (EO) 20-28 regarding the operation of higher education institutions during the coronavirus pandemic. The Leadership Team is reviewing the order and additional guidance received from the OHA, and ensuring that our plans are in compliance.

There are two important items we want to bring to your attention in today’s message: the continuation of remote work and plans for Fall Term.

Employees continue remote work

EOU employees will continue to work via remote access unless otherwise arranged with their supervisor. Supervisors will notify employees if or when they will be assigned to return to their offices in person. Employees at Regional Centers should defer to their host campuses and consult with the Regional Outreach and Innovation office. Faculty and staff at offsite campus locations should continue to stay in contact with their respective college.

Fall Term

EOU classes for Fall Term are planned to begin on Wednesday, Sept. 23, per our academic calendar, for all students, on-campus and online. Courses will continue through the Fall Term until Thanksgiving Break, when on-campus students may return home where they can complete the term remotely. This schedule plan is being used to decrease the risk of transmission by increased exposure during travel.

As this plan evolves and develops to implementation, your input is invited. Please contact your supervisor, vice president, or use the form on our Resumption Planning Website.

Sincerely,

Sarah Witte
