June 15, 2020 – EOU reports first on-campus COVID-19 cases

Dear EOU Community,

We are reaching out to let you know that Eastern Oregon University was notified late yesterday and this morning by two La Grande employees that they have tested positive for COVID-19. The employees are quarantined at home and under medical care, and facilities crews are cleaning workspaces.

The university is working with Union County public health officials to assist in contact tracing in the case investigation processes. Union County will lead the process. Although the identity of the patients will remain undisclosed to the public to protect their privacy, EOU officials will be cooperating with public health investigation to expedite notification to those who may have been exposed.

If you are directly contacted by public health, it does not necessarily mean that you have contracted COVID-19. It may simply mean that you could have interacted with a patient at some point within the last two weeks, and might be at risk for developing symptoms.

If you think you have been exposed to COVID-19 and have symptoms, stay home, avoid close contact with others, and contact your health care provider or an emergency medical care provider. You can also contact the Employee Assistance Program for support at 800-433-2320. Please reach out to your supervisors if you have any questions or concerns in any area.

We remain committed to the well-being and safety of the EOU community. We encourage each of you to continue doing your part to reduce the likelihood of further transmission of this virus. We will continue to communicate as new or updated information is available.

Should you have questions, please visit the EOU Coronavirus website

Thank you,

Executive Leadership Team
