May 15, 2020 – Reopening plans for EOU

Dear EOU Community,

As many of you have heard in the media, Union County has been approved by the state to begin Phase I of the reopening process, effective May 15. This is great news! Phase I includes the limited reopening of restaurants and bars, personal services (e.g. salons, barbershops), gyms and malls, and allows gatherings of up to 25 people for recreational, social, cultural, civic or faith events. Safety guidelines, including physical distancing, and sector-specific regulations remain in place.

EOU will not experience any immediate changes in operations and will continue to hold classes and work through remote access for the remainder of spring term, per Executive Orders 20-17 and 20-09. All main campus facilities and buildings will remain closed to the public during this time, including EOU’s Fitness Center in Quinn Coliseum.

Oregon’s public universities have developed a “reopening” framework in alignment with state guidelines that is currently under review with the Governor’s Office and the Oregon Health Authority. With an approved framework, we will fully develop reopening plans for our university community. We will work with employees and students to build various components of the plan, beginning as early as next week.

As we have stated previously, the health and well-being of our students and the continuation of their academic progress continues to be the focus of our efforts. Your ongoing commitment to serve EOU students remains at the heart of our shared purpose—thank you.

Sincerely,

Executive Leadership Team
