April 27, 2020 – Pass/No Pass deadline extended

An amendment to EOU’s Grading Policy extends the deadline for undergraduate students to select a pass/no pass (P*/NP) grading option for spring term 2020 classes.

The policy extends the timeframe for a student to decide on a P*/NP option through the end of the seventh week of the term on May 15. Students should consult with an advisor or faculty member and then complete the P*/NP Form.

Please read the following amendment carefully before selecting a P*/NP option:

“For Spring 2020, colleges will allow undergraduate students to choose letter grades or p*/np grades for each of their courses, with a p* reflecting C- or better work. Students may elect to have Spring 2020 p* grades apply towards major/minor requirements, upon consultation with their advisor or faculty member. Students may make the choice of letter of p*/np grades up until the end of 7th week.”

This change, approved by the colleges and Faculty Senate on April 21, recognizes the unique circumstances of students, faculty, and student support staff who quickly adapted to remote access teaching, learning and working environments during Spring 2020. Such adaptations demand flexibility in our normal grading processes for students.

The “Pass” designation is portable and recognizable in the transfer process within Oregon and with some state systems outside of Oregon. As per the Oregon Department of Education guidelines, this change excludes dual credit students.

Please contact the Registrar’s Office (registrar@eou.edu or 541-962-3607) or your academic advisor for more information. Visit eou.edu/registrar to find the P*/NP Form and other resources.
