March 12, 2020 – Athletics update

EOU Athletics Competition Suspended for 2 Weeks

3/12/2020
Dear Mountaineer Community,
We know there is a lot of concern surrounding the coronavirus outbreak. While we are continuing to monitor the situation, health and safety is our top priority.
First and foremost, Eastern Oregon University is open and plans to remain open and operational. However, with the University’s COVID-19 update, and in coordination with the Cascade Collegiate Conference, all Eastern Oregon University Athletics competitions will be suspended, effective immediately, for two weeks from March 12-29, 2020.

EOU’s spring programs in softball and track and field will not compete over the next two weeks. The NAIA also canceled the women’s wrestling NAIA Invitational scheduled for this weekend.

Additionally, all EOU athletic camps and clinics will be canceled during this time frame. If you are registered for one of our events and are concerned, please visit our directory to contact the head coach of the sports camp. The EOU Fitness Center in Quinn Coliseum will also be closed to the public, EOU staff, students, and teams for the same duration.

The CCC has put together a task force to continue to monitor the situation and will recommend how action (both regular-season and postseason play) will resume if and when that happens. The task force will begin meeting regularly with the next public comment on conference competitions scheduled for March 29.
We are doing our best to navigate the situation as best as possible with everyone’s safety in mind. We will keep you informed. For more EOU updates on COVID-19, please visit https://www.eou.edu/coronavirus/ or https://www.eou.edu/emergency/
