Prior to entering the academic profession, Dwight Denman had over 25 years’ experience in various business entities. He spent over 10 years with Valero Energy Corporation, a Fortune 500 company, beginning work as a financial analyst before eventually being promoted to a management position. During this time, he also earned a master’s degree in Professional Accounting and became a Certified Public Accountant.

It was during his studies for his master’s degree that he developed an interest in the area of taxation. Denman returned to school to earn his Juris Doctorate and subsequently attended Georgetown University Law Center, where he earned his LL.M. (Taxation). After that, Denman started his own firm, practicing as both a CPA and attorney.

Denman began his interest in an academic career as an adjunct instructor at various local community colleges in Texas. In 2007, he began teaching full-time. His teaching interests are diverse; he has taught Financial and Managerial Accounting, Taxation of Individuals, Taxation of Business Entities, Auditing, Oil & Gas Accounting, Intermediate Accounting, Advanced Accounting, Business Law, and Commercial Transactions.
