John Knudson-Martin, Ph.D.

John Knudson-Martin is an Associate Professor of Mathematics Education. He started his work at EOU in 2009. Prior to coming to EOU, Dr. Knudson-Martin worked for nearly 20 years as a teacher and administrator in public and private schools around the country. His major research interests are in developing school programs that help more students engage in and succeed in school mathematics. He has expertise in both quantitative and qualitative research and has published and presented papers on motivation, multicultural education, and curriculum reform in secondary schools. Dr. Knudson-Martin represents EOU on numerous State committees and is currently the Chair of the Tracking and Detracking Special Interest Group for the American Educational Research Association. Dr. Knudson-Martin teaches courses in the Mathematics and Education departments and he is currently vice president of the EOU Academic Senate. When he is not working, you will likely find John outside involved in hiking, golfing, hunting, fishing or kayaking. John has been married for 23 years to his wife, Carmen (also a university professor) and has a son, a daughter and two grandsons.
