Karyn Gomez, Ph.D.

Karyn Gomez earned her doctorate at Texas A&M University-Commerce in 2005.  She was eager to return to the Pacific Northwest after several years in Texas, and happily accepted a faculty position at EOU in 2006. Her research interests and presentations include literacy and teacher education.  She was an editorial assistant for the Journal of Literacy Research during her graduate studies and currently serves on the editorial board for the publication.  Her professional memberships include the Literacy Research Association, the Association of Literacy Educators and Researchers, and the International Reading Association.  She has taught in the undergraduate and graduate teacher preparation programs, reading and literacy programs and the Master of Science program while at EOU.  She is currently serving as the Director of Educator Preparation.   Prior to her experience in higher education, she taught at the elementary level for 18 years in a variety of public and private schools in Washington and Texas.
