Master of Clinical Mental Health Counseling<\/h1>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

EOU\u2019s Master of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling offers a broad foundation in evidence-based, ethical practice for students through courses on theories, techniques, individuals, couples, families, and typical specialty areas such as trauma, addictions, and working with children. All courses are offered online, in a blend of synchronous, asynchronous, and online weekend residency courses. Students finish the Masters degree with a minimum of 700 hours of hands-on experience counseling in community settings, positioning them for success as future clinical mental health counselors.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Degree Requirements<\/h3>\n\n\n\n
\n\n\n\n

Students must complete 90 quarter credits during their degree program, including 13 core counseling courses, 2 CMHC specific courses, 2 electives, and a minimum of 3 clinical experience courses: Practicum, Internship, and Advanced Internship. Students must be available to attend synchronous courses throughout the program, beginning in the second term of enrollment. In addition, students must complete a practicum clinical experience of a minimum of 100 hours over one (1) academic term and a minimum of 600 hours of internship clinical experience over two (2) to three (3) academic terms during the program. In order to be eligible for state licensure, please note that some states may require additional internship hours during the masters program.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Clinical Mental Health Counselors (CMHCs)<\/strong> differentiate themselves in the field of mental health with a focus on holistic treatment of the person through wellness and strengths-based approaches.  A Master degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling prepares students to become a Licensed Professional Counselor or Licensed Mental Health Counselor in your state. Clinical Mental Health Counselors are trained to diagnose and treat mental struggles, navigate relational issues, advocate for individuals and communities, respect diversity, and offer prevention programs and education on mental wellness. Many CMHCs work in agencies, hospitals, private practices, schools, and businesses.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div><\/div>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

CMHC Program Mission<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The mission of the Clinical Mental Health Counseling Program at Eastern Oregon University is to prepare ethical and exemplary future clinical mental health counselors, who work from a trauma-informed lens and treat clients through holistic and systems-informed perspectives. EOU\u2019s CMHC program is aligned with best practices in counselor education and the 2024 Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Program (CACREP) standards. We educate students to be advocates, invest in social justice, and collaborate with communities and individuals to address societal and personal challenges. Congruent with the mission of Eastern Oregon University, students and faculty are mental health emissaries with a charge of bringing mental health services to rural and underserved populations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Accreditation Status<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The Master of Science degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling offered by Eastern Oregon University (EOU) is designed to meet the 2024 Standards of the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP). However, EOU\u2019s Master of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling is not currently accredited by CACREP<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
