Pick your track!<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The Biology Program offers two options for specialization in biology.  After completing a core curriculum, students select from two concentrations, Pre-health Profession and Molecular Biology<\/strong> or Ecological Biology.<\/strong>  Both tracks offer preparation for continuing professional educational programs in medicine, vet medicine, other health fields, natural resources management or education.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Ecological Biology track prepares students for careers in Natural Resource Management (especially with government agencies such as the Department of Fish and Wildlife or Forest Service) and Science Education, while the Pre-health Professions and Molecular Biology track prepares students for careers in a myriad of health related professions or biomedical research.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In addition, the varied interests of the Biology faculty provide high quality research opportunities for undergraduate students needing these experiences to gain entry into medical and health professional schools or graduate research programs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Research Opportunities<\/h3>\n\n\n\n
\n\n\n\n

Biology faculty at EOU have continuing research programs in which undergraduate students play an important role.  Students engage in the process of scientific publication and presentation at professional meetings.  Eastern Oregon University also provides opportunities for student publication in the Eastern Oregon Science Journal<\/a>, and hosts an annual Spring Symposium<\/a> for formal presentation of research results through talks and posters.  Some scholarship funding is available for student research endeavors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Internship Opportunities<\/h3>\n\n\n\n
\n\n\n\n

Many opportunities are available to students for internship or practicum experiences.  Faculty facilitate placement of student interns within the local health network, natural resource agencies, or other partner organizations.  Internships can be arranged to meet most student interests and preprofessional needs, and students may receive academic credit for these experiences.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

The Biology Club offers students a platform to connect with peers who share similar interests. By joining the club, members have the opportunity to participate in a variety of community service projects. Notably, the club contributes to events such as the annual Girls in Science and Lego First Robotics League at EOU, as well as the Ladd Marsh spring bird festival. These activities allow students to apply their knowledge in real-world settings and foster a sense of community and teamwork.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In addition to community service, the Biology Club emphasizes social engagement and experiential learning. Students organize social gatherings and field trips, tailored to the current interests of the club members. These outings and events provide a fun and educational way for members to bond, share ideas, and explore their passion for biology in diverse environments. Through these experiences, students can build lasting friendships and enhance their academic journey with hands-on activities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
