Classroom Computer Login Information

Users have the option to log into their Mountie Pass Accounts or use a Public login.

  • To login to a public computer with your Mountie Pass credentials:
    • Click “Other User”
    • Enter your Mountie-Pass credentials (email username and password) in the User & Password fields.
    • Please note it may take a few minutes for the computer to boot into your profile as it’s accessing your files within Active Directory.
      • Be sure to log out of the public computer once you are done.
  • To login to a public computer with a guest account:
    • Click “Other User”
    • Enter: .\eouuser in the User field.
    • No password is required in the Password field.
      • Be sure to log out of the public computer once you are done.

AV Cabinet Access

Faculty will be given a 4 digit code by the college or by the AV department to access the AV cabinets at the beginning of each academic year.

To open the cabinet:

  1. Enter in the 4 digit combination.
  2. Rotate the lever to the left to unlock.
  3. Pull to open the cabinet door.

To close the cabinet:

  1. Close the cabinet door until you hear the door latch.
  2. Ensure the lever is in its original vertical position.
  3. Pull on the cabinet door to ensure it’s secured properly (Repeat if it is not).

LH 117 Tips & Tricks

  • The Yeti Microphone is a plug and play device. Simply plug in the USB and the power and the computers will automatically install the drivers in the computer.
  • The Logitech Conference Camera is also a plug and play device.
  • The TV remotes are very directional – point them directly at the TV’s when you are using them.
  • Please turn off the TVs after each use.
  • The Gyration Mouse must stay in the charging bay when not in use so it can be used in the following classes without interuption.

To View The Computer Display

  • Make sure the TV is powered on
  • Press INPUT button on the LG TV remote
  • From the INPUT list select HDMI1

To View A Laptop

  • Make sure the TV is powered on
  • Attach the HDMI cable from the opposite door of the cabinet (approximately 20 feet of cable)
  • Press INPUT button on LG TV remote
  • Select HDMI2 from list (until connected this option will be grayed out)
  • Laptop users should be familiar with their own display functions

To Use The Apple TV

  • Make sure the SMART cart isobar is on. Turn on the Smart TV. You should see the name of the Apple TV on the display.
  • If you’re using an iOS mobile device, swipe up from the bottom of your screen to open Control Center
    • In Control Center, tap AirPlay to Apple TV icon AirPlay Mirroring, then select your Apple TV from the list.
  • If you’re using a Macbook, click on the AirPlay icon on the right side of your Mac’s menu bar.
    • Click on ATV-LH-117-1 from the dropdown.
  • If an AirPlay passcode appears on your TV screen, enter the passcode on your Apple device.

To Use The Chromecast

  • Make sure the Smart cart isobar is on. Turn on the Smart TV. You should see the name of the Apple TV on the display.
  • Press the Source button on SMART remote and select HDMI 2
  • Casting from your phone, go to the app that you want to show.
    • Play your content and an icon should appear that looks like a rectangle with airwaves.
    • Press the Icon and select CC-LH-117-1
  • Casting from your laptop, have the Chrome browser open and click the Setting icon in the top right corner.
    • Click Cast then when you see the dropdown click on a tab (if you only want to show the particular tab in your browser) or desktop (if you want the entire desktop)
    • Choose CC-LH-117-1
    • Important note on the audio: You can only cast your desktop audio from Windows. If you cast your desktop from a Mac or Chrome OS computer, you’ll see the contents of your screen on your TV but won’t be able to hear any audio from your computer.

Hybrid Classroom Tips & Tricks

Hybrid Classroom Tips

  • Some Smart Classrooms are equipped with a webcam and a single room microphone (mic) for hybrid course instruction.
    • The mic is very sensitive and will pick up most of the sound in the room.
    • The webcam is set for a view of the teaching space, and some of the student seats where possible.
    • Both devices are connected directly to the classroom’s computer through USB ports so it is instantly recognized by Zoom.
    • Computer audio output is through the room speakers (where it was available in the past).

Room Mic Best Practices

  • Don’t block or cover the mics, that will mute the sound and cause noise.
  • Everyone needs to speak slowly and clearly. Single room mic sound is never perfect, and masks muffle and distort the sound of one’s voice. You may need to repeat yourself and be patient when people have trouble understanding. People with soft voices may not be heard well over the mic, especially when wearing masks. Speaking closely to the room mic while observing social distancing may help.
  • The classroom must be as quiet as possible, as room acoustics may vary. Any noise, such as snack bags, paper rustling, and side conversations, which humans in the room can “tune out,” can seem so loud over a mic that they easily overpower anyone speaking.
  • Encourage people to indicate when they haven’t heard something.
  • Remote participants should mute their mics if they are not actively speaking to the class. Room noises from remote locations are just as disruptive as noises in the classroom.
  • If anyone in the classroom other than the instructor logs in to the Zoom session, they will need to keep their mics muted at all times to prevent audio feedback from the room mic. Given the variation in stream delays, it is also recommended that they use headphones or earbuds if they want to listen to the audio from the Zoom session, as the echo-like delay over open speakers can be very distracting.

NOTE: Please try and make an extra effort to include remote students. Not being physically in the classroom cuts them off from most of our normal communication pathways, and they often begin to feel left out and disengaged. It can very quickly become extremely frustrating and discouraging for them.

If possible, have one or more students in the classroom help monitor the chat and hand raising functions in Zoom. Encourage everyone in the classroom to pay attention to, and interact with, the remote students.

Try to look into the camera often. This is difficult to do, as we are “wired” to look at faces. Some people even put pictures of a face very close to their camera to make this easier. Or stand in a position so that the camera is near your line of sight to a student in the room. This will also improve any recordings you are making.


Miscellaneous

  • The Gyro Mouse must stay in the charging bay when not in use so future classes won’t be interrupted.
  • Please keep the room volume at reasonable levels to respect your neighbors and prevent blowing room speakers.
  • Please turn off the room TV/projector after use.
