The Nightingale Gallery of Eastern Oregon University is pleased to present a\u00a0diverse collection that is rarely exhibited together. The exhibit opens at 12 p.m. Friday, Nov. 21 in the gallery in Loso Hall.\u00a0There will be no reception.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe EOU collection represents decades of eclectic acquisition and will present gallery goers an array of works in a variety of media by a broad selection of highly skilled artists,\u201d said Cory Peeke, director of Nightingale Gallery.<\/p>\n

A rich assortment of prints will be on display by some of the biggest names in art history including works by Pablo Picasso, Thomas Hart Benton, Paul Cezanne, Robert Indiana and Alexander Calder, among others.<\/p>\n

The collection also features a strong selection of works by artists with well-known ties to the\u00a0region. Pieces by George Nightingale, Betty Feves, Kat Galloway, Ben Francy, Don Gray, Marvin Saltzman and Doug Kaigler will be on view.\u00a0Kaigler\u2019s bronze \u201cToday\u2019s Special, David\u2019s Dilemma Blackbird Pie\u201d is the university\u2019s most recent acquisition.<\/p>\n

In addition to these familiar names there will also be work by some lesser known but equally talented artists. Many of these pieces were created by up-and-coming former EOU students, including paintings and drawings by Alec Schramek, Devin Farrand, James Long and Kevin Layton, as well as sculpture by Lauren Hull and Emily Patterson.<\/p>\n

Much of the collection is made up of works on paper and many of these pieces\u00a0have been part of a two-year concentrated effort by the gallery to reframe and conserve them. This effort was undertaken in order to prepare them for exhibit and preserve them for future generations.<\/p>\n

The conservation and acquisition of these works is\u00a0made possible by the small commission the Nightingale Gallery realizes from the sale of exhibited pieces.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
