EOU Academic Advising Mission Statement

Eastern Oregon University Academic Advisors work in a collaborative spirit with students, guiding them in defining and implementing sound educational plans that are consistent with their personal values, goals, and career objectives leading to responsible and reflective action in a diverse and interconnected world. Academic advising provides systematic student inquiry through EOU, from matriculation to graduation, for a diverse population of students, both online and on-campus. Adhering primarily to the Developmental Advising theory, the work of Academic Advising is strongly rooted in CAS (Council for the Advancement of Standards in Higher Education) standards, and follows NACADA (The Global Community for Academic Advising) and other professional organizations for best practices and research based approaches.

What is Academic Advising?

Academic advising at EOU is an ongoing teaching and learning experience that is based on collaboration between students, advisors, and the Mountaineer community. Advisors educate students about university policies and procedures, promote engagement in high-impact opportunities, assist in the exploration and discovery of academic resources, and empower students to take ownership of their academic goals, decisions, and achievements.
