CORE 101 is a first year experience course designed to assist and support students in becoming successful in college. It is a 3 credit General Education course, and is required for students testing into pre-college level Math and Writing classes. Core 101 is designed to assist students in navigating college, developing the skills necessary for academic success, and in understanding and dealing with the various stressors and issues that they will confront during the first year and beyond.

 Goals:

• learn to think clearly, critically, and effectively
• gain knowledge about the structure of EOU and the resources available for students on campus and how to access them
• explore social, emotional, and academic issues faced by first year students
• develop a supportive group of peers within the CORE 101/Writing 115 cohort
• develop communication and interpersonal skills
• develop an appreciation and understanding for intercultural issues and diversity on campus
• learn how to effectively interact with faculty
• develop the study and time management skills necessary for college success
