Catalog Description: College-level practice of writing skills with a special emphasis on writing analytically, usually about texts. Students learn to adapt their writing processes to the rhetorical constraints of academic writing. Prerequisite: Accuplacer placement in WR 121 or WR 131 or completion
of WR 115, and a satisfactory in-class diagnostic essay.

Learning Outcomes:

  1. Read and reread carefully
  2. Think critically by asking questions, collecting and evaluating information to answer them, and presenting answers logically by making and supporting claims
  3. Participate in the EOU scholarly community by contributing in class and participating in and reflecting on campus events
  4. Use writing to explore concepts, document learning, assess accomplishments, and evaluate writing
  5. Produce effective academic writing
  6. Perform scholarly research

Hometown Envelope Content Ideas: photos, websites, newspaper articles about local issues, unique classified ads, letters to the editor, tourism articles, popular bumper stickers, school fight songs, biographies of famous residents, local history, local poetry, local songs, local stories. rumors, ghost stories, guides to local animals and plants, obituaries, postcards, restaurant menus, local recipes, local comic strips, jokes about your hometown, jokes locals tell, "you can tell you're from X if you..." lists, real estate advertisements, Wikipedia entry for your city, description of local businesses, websites you thought were about your hometown but weren't, town map, etc.
