On 7 and 8 May 2007 the 4-8-4 Northern class Union Pacific Steam
Engine Number 844 special train came through La Grande, Oregon.
At about 9:30 AM the 844 transited the Hilgard Crossing in the
picture above. This was a rare opportunity to see a steam engine
cross this "country crossing" just east of La Grande,
