Student Reviews of the Podcast,

Question 4 Any other comments?
Comments from M. Mustoe in green

As I was listening to the pod cast I found myself interested with the information that was being presented. I found some of the responses interesting, I never thought a simple talk like "tell me what the bear is saying" would spark adventurous stories. For example, one student talked about the bear telling the story on how the words "teddy bear" became famous. I stayed focus and had a good understanding of the material until the last 2-3 minutes of the pod cast. I would rate the understanding and interactions level a 4.

I would rate the pod cast at a four. I liked how there was different voices and music incorporated into the pod cast. I thought that it keeps my interest more than if one person would have just been talking. At some points though it did seem very repetitive with what people did or thought about the teddy bear, but at the same time each one was different

I would give the pod cast a 3, this is because I had a hard time interacting with the material. I would have been able to understand the pod cast a little better if there were a visual aspect instead of just audio.

I would rate my interaction with the Pod cast at a 5, I was engaged the entire time and enjoyed the calm feeling of the Pod cast while receiving interesting and necessary information for this assignment.

I am not sure exactly what this student is referring to in the context of "calm feeling" but this is very interesting to me. Is it the ambient sounds of the environment in which the delivery takes place? Or could it be the alliterations of the narration or the flow of the information? Is it the music padding? I think this "Calm Feeling" is what I try to gain in my classes, but the ambience of a room with over 100 students makes that a challenge. Maybe it's the private venue in which this content can be delivered. For some students this might translate to one-on-one instruction.

Again, I enjoyed the Pod cast; it was interesting a very neat to hear actual student interviews.

Is this a way to get students to interact within a large lecture format?

I had read and written down the questions prior to starting the pod cast, but as the information came my mind was trying to organize it and respond to the questions and felt myself growing frustrated as the information was coming to fast for me to grab everything I wanted to. I ended up having to replay it three times. I find I like to hear the interaction going on because it add more to the experience, as long as I also have a hard copy to follow along with. I would rate my interaction as 3 1/2.

It sounded very good! I was able to understand what was going on. The information was clear.

I think the material presented in the pod cast is very useful because it make the students understand the concept of diffusion themselves. It makes them understand the concept through practical ways. The process they went through before finding the truck portrays and makes them understand the concept. So the scale to this demonstration is 5.

Landscape we created the idealism of space, the symbolic landscape. Culture defines this symbolism; it creates the difference between the ideal and the "real". Environmental perception is based on symbolism and what we've been taught to make associates to. Throughout the cultural landscape, images are used to make these symbolic associations.

Symbolism in the cultural landscape could be anything, which people may perceive in a way other than only what it is. Trucks are generally thought of a masculine in nature and teddy bears as feminine. But a truck could become more feminine if it has a teddy bear in the window, and a teddy bear could in turn become more masculine in the eyes of another person. The local culture would also have a part in how the symbols are interpreted, as in Eastern Oregon it is not uncommon for a girl to drive a truck, but it is uncommon for a guy to display a teddy bear in his.

Symbolism in cultural landscape is expressed by the customs of the surroundings. The one student had said that if she was unaware of whom the owner was, she would think the truck belonged to a girl. She came to this conclusion, because it's not uncommon for a woman to drive a truck in this part of Oregon, and she said most men wouldn't have a teddy bear in their window. Just because there was a teddy bear in the window, she made the assumption that the truck belonged to a girl. I would rate the delivery of the content a 5. It was presented very well. My mind stayed focused

I would rate the delivery of the content a 5. I stayed focused and it actually made sense.

Answer.I enjoyed the pod cast and thought it was well put together. The sound quality was excellent. And the material was available was more than adequate to answer the questions. I was able to remain focused on this project easily.
