Example:
Which brand of disposable diapers are most expensive for grandparents to buy for their kids?

C. Pampers by Procter and Gamble

1. What is the major difference between the two kinds of wind systems discussed in the text? These include the geostrophic wind and the surface winds.
A. The geostrophic wind only occurs on cold days.
B. The geostrophic wind only occurs on the west side of continents.
C. The geostrophic wind is the net effect of of both Coriolis and gradient wind.
D. The Coriolis wind only blows to the west, toward the centre of high pressure.

2. In one word, what causes a surface wind to have a different direction and magnitude of speed than an upper air wind? Remember as a result of this force the Coriolis force is affected in such as way that it pulls the wind toward the pressure gradient changing it's direction. However, the question is what is the force that initiates this action?
A. Rotation B. Solidification C. Friction D. Elevation.

3. West Texas, California, and other places, but these ones in particular in the States are known for wind machine farms, generating electricity from the wind.....so that you and I can have cheap energy bills...sure. The amount of energy/power that can be generated by wind is determined generally by the equation:

P here stands for the power produced by the wind in WATTS....yes the same watts you use when you buy a XYZ Watt light globe (as I call them) at the hardware store. S stands for the the wind speed in metres per second.....and ....D is the density of the wind. This D factories considered to be set at: D= 1.293 kg per cubic metres.....so you can rewrite this equation like this:

So...... you record the following wind speeds:

a. 2m/s (metres per second)

b. 4 m/s

c. 6m/s

d. 8 m/s

First on the back of the scantron or on your paper show your calculations for the power output in watts for each of these speeds.

If you look at your data you will see that as wind speed double, power output goes up dramatically. Of course this is a simple application not taking into account the design of the generator efficiencies and the wind loading characteristics of the turbine blades. OK take a look at this:

4. The overall average wind speeds of City A and B are calculated to be:
City A= A consistent 6 metres per second.
City B= City Bs speeds come and go, about half are at 2m/s while the other half are at 10m/s. Which of these cities get the wind machines and the benefit of a 12 million dollar project to stimulate the economy, bring in a bunch of contractors to stay at the local hotels and buy up steak suppers (with clam chowder) on Friday nights at the local restaurants?

A. City A

B. City B

C. Neither city because the mayor of city A and B are corrupt scoundrels.

D. Both cities because they are equal in potential output.

5. Read the following PDF( OUTLOOK ) on wind power and answer the following questions:
A. Which states are presently in the top 5 for MW produced by wind?

B. State the environmental benefits of Wind Power to the Hershey Park.

Show thy work.
