Herbarium

EOSC

Location:

The herbarium is located in Room 306 in Badgley Hall, the science building on the Eastern Oregon University campus, in La Grande, Oregon.

Hours:

The herbarium is generally open to the public during normal working hours, excluding weekends. Individuals coming from out of town should contact the curator to insure access.

Collection Description:

Eastern Oregon University maintains a herbarium collection of approximately 9,500 specimens. The collection represents the flora of Northeast Oregon, including, primarily, Union, Wallowa and Baker Counties. The nucleus of the collection is based on U.S. Forest Service collections from the early decades of the 20th century. Since then, the collection has grown through many years of student collections for plant taxonomy courses. The herbarium also serves as a repository for vouchers of several floristic studies from Northeast Oregon. The collection is used extensively by students of Biol. 334, Plant Taxonomy and Biol. 421, Agrostology at Eastern.

Loans:

Specimens loans will be made following standard herbarium procedures. We welcome examination and annotation of the specimens by experts.

Herbarium Database:

A project currently is underway to capture collection data from all herbarium specimens at Eastern. At this time, we have entered data for all monocotyledons, gymnosperms, ferns and allies, and a few dicotyledons, totaling 4,000 records.
