Preservation of open space and permanent protection of open lands from development has become a priority that unites both traditional conservationists and family farmers and ranchers. The economy of the Grande Ronde Valley is sustained by agriculture, ranching and timber production. Outside influences that drive land prices up make it harder for families to preserve their undeveloped lands. One solution is to use conservation easement deeds to permanently protect these lands, and to reduce taxation when land passes between generations.

The Blue Mountains Conservancy can assist land owners with learning about how to use conservation easements to protect their open lands. We also have expertise with the federal Conservation Reserve Program (CRP) and the Wetlands Reserve Program (WRP). More information about how conservation easements work to preserve open space and reduce taxes is available at the following link.

Our Projects:

Barn Renovation set to begin at End Creek:

A generous grant from the Gray Family Fund of The Oregon Community Foundation is helping the Blue Mountains Conservancy to begin renovation of the 100-year-old hay barn on the End Creek property. It will become the center of educational programs, with interpretive displays, classroom and office space, and a field research lab.

End Creek Wetlands Restoration:
