*Discipline Representative, English/Writing Program (2010-11): Duties included: Overseeing division scheduling. Coordinating scheduled program assessment. Began Civic Engagement program assessment. Coordinating program curriculum initiatives (complete change of major in 2010-11). Coordinating program advancement and marketing. Coordinating diversity requirement implementation. Overseeing program budget. Coordinating program meetings, agenda, and follow-through. Coordinating new faculty formative assessment. Online scheduling for 33 courses and 2390 SCH; coordinating online schedule with the on-campus schedule (90 courses, 1612 students served, 6596 SCH) to minimize impact of online courses on campus ENGL/WR enrollments: Oversight of final combining of on-campus and online schedule coordination: 124 courses, 2586 students, 8808 SCH, including summer session. Served on 2 searches during summer and hiring a new online adjunct faculty, as well acting as point person for inquiries from new hires. Coordinated EOU’s largest Program Faculty group: 13 on-campus, tenured, tenure-track, and resource faculty; additional 6 resource faculty online. Evaluated online faculty. **Chair, Division of Arts and Letters (2006-09): Duties included advocating a Division vision, serving on appropriate committees, chairing Division meetings, keeping Division informed on matters of importance, final approval of graduation applications, evaluation of division faculty, conducting post-tenure reviews, processing student complaints, advising the dean on equipment purchases, monitoring the budgets of Division programs (Art, English/Writing, Music, Theatre, Media Arts), initiating and monitoring Division searches, facilitating approval process for Division curriculum proposals, recommending course schedules to the Dean, advising dean on space allocations, supporting recruitment and retention efforts in the Division, assisting Dean with Administration-directed proposals, including sustainability mandates.
⁺Director, Oregon Writing Project at Eastern (1991-2008): Duties included fund-raising and grant writing; publicity, marketing, recruitment and coordinating of the Summer Writing Institute; initiation and coordination of the summer OWP Open Institute in Bend and Ontario and the OWP Teaching Institute for College Faculty in La Grande (2003); coordination of follow-up and evaluation activities. Since 1992-2008, over 150 classroom teachers (K through university) attended the Summer Writing Institute, with several hundred involved in continuity programs. In addition, hundreds of eastern Oregon teachers have participated in informal and formal inservice programs. Over 1,900 students attended the Student Writers’ Workshop, many of them setting foot on a college campus for the first time, coming from regional schools located anywhere from the Columbia River to Idaho and from Enterprise to Monument and all points between. During my tenure as director, OWP brought in over one million dollars in federal grants, matching funds, and tuition income. Over 90% of the federal funds went directly to K-16 teachers throughout our region to support their efforts to teach reading and writing more effectively and to aid their professional development.
