Although I am a registered Republican, I can't say that I support the entire platform of that party. In fact many of my ideals follow Libertarian concepts. However, this country is and has been in dire straits due to the extreme partisan actions of those who have been elected to represent us in national and state legislatures.
What is best for the country is not always what is best for the political party. And therein lies many of our problems. Politicians in my view are inherently dishonest. Their sole objective is perpetuating their political career rather then doing what is the best for those they serve - us! Obviously there are some times when they can be truthful, but I tend to be very wary of any of their statements because I see their actions.
I believe that the United States is the greatest country the world has ever seen. The fact that we still have poverty, people without access to health care, limits on educational achievement, etc. shows a lack of WILL not a lack of capability. In a country as wealthy as we are, no one should go hungry, homeless, or illiterate unless they make that a personal choice. As a nation, do we have the political will to solve these problems? More importantly, do we have the courage to reallocate resources into truly worthwhile activities that help others?
