Vegas

By Alex Hester

It was the start of my senior class trip in high school. We were going on the much anticipated cruise to Mexico. We had looked forward to this trip since we were in the 7th grade. I didn’t think my parents would even think about me going, but I asked anyways and they said yes, but asked if I would be ok with them going too. I told them I didn’t care as long as I could go. My mom and dad were more excited to go than I was. To get to the cruise ship going to Mexico, we were going to drive from Jackpot, Nevada all the way to Los Angeles, California. On the way we stopped at Las Vegas to stay the night. That night was the craziest night ever, but I learned you have to pay for crazy.

The first thing we did when we got to Vegas was check in and get settled into our hotel rooms at Circus-Circus. Our room was really big and full of interesting pictures of circuses. We hung out there for a while and then decided to go to the outlet mall, which was huge. I had never seen anything like it. We shopped at the mall for about three hours before we decided we were bored and wanted to do something else. On the way back to the hotel, we stopped at a Mexican restaurant with some friends that graduated from our school that go to the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, (UNLV). While we were hanging out eating our tacos, they invited us to go to a party at their house later that night. We, of course, said “heck yes, we will be there.”

So at about eight o clock, when my parents went to bed, we left to this party. We had to wait until my parents went to bed so they wouldn’t get mad at me. They had no clue we had left. All 13 of us that went on this trip piled into a Chevy Suburban. We rode all the way across Vegas sitting on each other, and it was quite funny. We finally got to our friend’s house, and when we got there my buddy Mac told me not to drink a lot because I had never gotten drunk before, and they didn’t want my parents to find out and all of us get into trouble.

When we got inside the house, there were more of our buddies playing beer pong. I had never seen this game before this night so I had to try it out. I was pretty darn good for a while. After about 3 games and a lot of beer, we decide to go to another house, which was a big mistake. I drank more than I should have. It was a really rough night; on the way back to the hotel, we piled 13 drunken people into the car. That had to be the longest craziest ride ever. We got back to the hotel parking garage and all of us fell out of the car. When one of the girls got out of the car, she started to throw up. At the time I thought it was the funniest thing ever because it wasn’t me. But soon after that it was my turn. I puked five feet into a trash can. It was amazing. I didn’t know I had that kind of distance.  I and my friends somehow found our way to our room. I and my best friend Jorge were going to sleep in the bathroom so we didn’t throw up on the carpet. When we woke up in the morning, I was shocked to find I was in a bed under the sheet wearing nothing but my underwear.

The morning we left for L.A.to get to the ship was a drag. We were all so tired and none of us felt very good at all. When we stopped for breakfast, my mom asked why we all looked so tired and sick. I had to make up a good quick lie and said we just had a late night walking around the strip. She totally believed me, which was a miracle because my mom and dad would have murdered me in the hot desert and would have left me for the vultures to feast upon me. That had to be the most fun I had ever had in one night. My mom and dad still don’t know about it.

But wildness has its price. The ride to Los Angeles was so long because I was really sick from our wild night before. Being car sick and hung over is the worst feeling ever. Everything I did made me want to throw up. All I wanted to do was sleep. I have never been so miserable in my life.

That morning I learned to have that kind of fun you have to pay a price. In this case the price was being sick and miserable. It was not even close to being worth it. You can have fun many other ways and not have to feel like that and regret doing it.
