Description of Class: "Self Defense from the Inside Out" is a non-physical class exploring how we can use awareness, intuition, assertion, and self-affirmation to keep ourselves safe.

The first half of the class looks at "how we get got," including continuum and context, strategies of abusers, the gender set-up, politics of victim-blaming, socialization of victimization, and why we often do not act in our own best interest.

The second half of the class develops skills for "resistance," including waking up our intuition, making friends with our anger, practicing affirmations, seeing the difference between asserion and aggression, and learning verbal response strategies.  The class uses exercises, hand outs, discussion, and affective art projects in a playful, supportive, and challenging environment.
