A Patchwork of Women's Lives . . .

International Women's Week 2003

Spring Symposium 2003

That Takes Ovaries

International Women's Week will be celebrated at EOU March 1 through 8.  This celebration is an expansion of International Women's Day (March 8), designated by the United Nations and celebrated world-wide since 1909 to recognize women as makers of history.

This year's theme is "Patchwork of Women's Lives" and events include an interactive quilting display, rock climbing, meditation, a film series, an art display, talks on contributions made by women historically and in various disciplines, and a panel on The Taming of the Shrew.

The week will culminate with an Awards Ceremony to recognize the contributions of campus and community women. This ceremony will be followed by Carole Groobman's one-woman show "Force of Nature," which reflects the power of childbirth and also problematizes its medicalization.

Admission to all events is free and open to the public, but a donation of a non-perishable food item is suggested. GEND 410 course credit is available for participation in the week's events. Contact Nancy Knowles by February 29 for more details (nknowles@eou.edu, 962-3795).

This celebration is made possible by support from the Women's Research and Resource Center, the President's Commission on the Status of Women, the EOU Foundation, and the Associated Students of Eastern Oregon University.
