BARBIE CULTURE SOC. 405 READING & CONFERENCE CLASS

A one-credit course on May 7 & 8, 2004.  Planned to coincide with the “Rethinking Barbie Contest” sponsored by the Women's Research and Resource Center, this short course will be a sociological exploration of the “Barbie doll” as a cultural icon. Students planning to participate in the contest can complement their creative work with this academic component. Others may simply choose to join us for a provocative discussion of an important piece of U.S. popular culture. There are no prerequisites. In addition to attendance, students will be responsible for reading a short text and will produce a piece of scholarly writing. The course has a suppressed line number, so interested students should contact Rosemary Powers directly at rpowers@eou.edu or by phone at 962-3819.
