Fire claims life

The fire, called in just moments before 8 a.m., had 16 members of the La Grande Fire Department responding with two engines, an ambulance and three support vehicles to a small three-apartment complex behind 1601 Adams Ave.
Firefighters were still cleaning up the scene at 9 a.m. today.
According to Lois Rieke, the fire department's fire safety coordinator, no cause of the fatal fire had yet been determined.
Most of the damage was inside the one-story apartment complex, located behind Eastern Oregon Title and the Arrow Store.
It will be left to law enforcement to release the name of the victim. No other injuries were reported.
