La Grande, Oregon - Bob Terry, Rep. Greg Smith, and Dr. Dave Huber are hard acts to follow, but Eastern Oregon University is searching for who will be the recipient of its next Distinguished Alumni Award.

Nominations are being accepted on-line at www.eou.edu/alumni/ from now through March 31 as EOU hopes to find the 2004 Distinguished Alumni. The previous recipients of the award include Robert Tolar (2003), Dave Huber (2002), Greg Smith (2001) and Bob Terry (2000).

"There is no shortage of EOU Alumni who have made professional contributions and reached personal achievements that distinguish them and therefore our University," said Bill Frazier, the Alumni Board President and a 1968 EOU alum. "It is a great honor, and a challenge, to choose one alum each year from large pools of nominees to receive the highest honor the Eastern Oregon University Alumni Association bestows."

"The Eastern Oregon University Distinguished Alumni Award is the greatest honor I have received. The education that EOU gave me has taken me further than I could have dreamed," said Tolar, the 2003 Distinguished Alumni Award recipient and a 1962 EOU alum.

The award is given to an EOU alum who, through their chosen career and personal endeavors, has served their community and the University. Another requirement is the nominee's professional contributions and personal achievements have brought honor to themselves and recognition to EOU.

Current members of the Alumni Association Board and EOU Foundation Executive Board, along with previous recipients of the award, are ineligible for nominations. One award is given each academic year and presented during Commencement.

Two other awards are also available on the EOU website. The Alumni Merit and University Service awards are accepting nominations through Sept. 10. The Alumni Merit Award is given to an alum of the University or its campus partner programs who have performed extraordinary and meritorious service in support of the goals and objectives of the University and the Alumni Association. The University Service Award is given to an alum or friend of the University in recognition of extraordinary or meritorious service in support of the goals and objectives of the University.

For more information or to nominate an alum, contact Grady Goodall at 962-3740.
