April 2: Integrated Services groundbreaking [EOU release]

The Integrated Services Building will offically get underway with a groundbreaking ceremony at noon Friday. Eastern Oregon University officials and representatives from the Department of Human Services will meet at the site on Gekeler Lane. Bob Lawrence, Bill Fink and Todd Sieux of the Department of Human Services and Dennis Silvers of DW Silver Co. will join EOu President Phil Creighton for the event.

April 3: Arbor Day celebrates historic tree on EOU's campus [EOU release]

During the La Grande City Council's April 3, 2002 regular session, Katie Kause, Oregon Department of Forestry Community Assistance Forester for the eastern Oregon area, will present the city with its 2001 Tree City USA and 2001 Tree City USA Growth awards. A dedication of La Grande's first Oregon Heritage Tree will also be held to recognize the historic James and Elizabeth Baker black locust tree located on the Eastern Oregon University campus at the north corner of Hunt Hall.


April 13: EOU women's hoops garner more awards [The Observer]

After leading their team to the second-best season in school history, senior forward Brooke Sellards and head coach Anji Weissenfluh have been honored by the Northwest Collegiate Sports Service with postseason awards. Sellards has been named to the Little All-Northwest first team, and Weissenfluh has been named coach of the year by the Sports Service.


April 24: Cutright has a passion for libraries [The Observer]

Finding an open day on Patricia Cutright's calendar is as difficult as finding university libraries that still use card catalogs. Cutright, the director of Eastern Oregon Unviersity's library, rarely has free time as she directs an array of local and statewide library projects. Still, Cutright has such engergy and balances her responsibilites so well, she never seems overburdened.


April 24: SIFE team wins regional title [EOU release]

It took Eastern Oregon University's Students in Free Enterprise team only three years to rise from a newly formed program to regional champion. on Friday, EOU's SIFE team traveled to Seattle and came away with a Regional Championship trophy. Eighteen schools from Oregon, Washington, California, Montana and Idaho were divided into three divisions.


April 24: Students present at undergraduate literature conference
[EOU release]

Never underestimate the challenge of writing a college paper. Eastern Oregon University students Neva Sanders and Geri Hopkins took their writing so seriously and gave such enlightened views on their class assignments that their English professors, Sandra Ellston and Marilyn Ewing, suggested the two submit their papers for the 17th Annual National Undergraduate Literature Conference.

April 24: Alum returns with book in hand [EOU release]
Rob Whitbeck is returning to the university that set him on his path toward a life of writing. A 1982 Eastern Oregon University magna cum laude graduate, Whitbeck will present his first poetry book, "Oregon Sojourn," at 7:30 p.m., April 4, in the Alumni Room at Ackerman Hall.


April 24: Speakers highlight Festival of Foreign Languages [EOU release]
International Languages and Cultures Week will be celebrated at Eastern Oregon University April 24-26 through four presentations. Performances featuring two Mexican pieces will be given on Wednesday and Thursday. On Thursday and Friday, two instructors from the University of Oregon will follow with presentations. The four events are free to the public.
