February 7: Science Journal receives top award for second straight year
[EOU release]

The Eastern Oregon Science Journal 2000-01 edition was recently awarded first place with special merit to the editorial staff by the American Scholastic Press Association. The ASPA judges undergraduate publications from around the country and issues four award levels based on format, design, method of publication, style and layout.

 

February 11: Women's basketball team remains in first place [The Observer]

With first place in the Cascade Collegiate Conference at stake Saturday, the Eastern Oregon Mountaineer women had their finest road to victory of the season, a 76-64 victory over Western Baptist.

 

February 13: Mountaineer logo voting started [EOU release]

The Mountaineers are on the verge of receiving a logo to go with their name. After nearly two decades without a sports logo, Eastern Oregon University is on the verge of selecting an identifying athletic moniker. A Web page, located at www.eou.edu/ua/mountaineer/ will give alumni, students, faculty, friends and anyone interested the chance to vote on one of the three options and give comments.

 

February 18: EOU women league champs [The Observer]

The Eastern Oregon women's basketball team won its first Cascade Collegiate Conference title Saturday. Eastern (20-4 overall, 13-3 league) was in command from the beginning. Eastern coach Anji Weissenfluh said this season will be looked back on after the team went form last to first place in one year.

 

February 19: Eight EOU tracksters to compete in NAIA Indoor Championship [The Observer]

Eight members of Eastern Oregon's track and field team will compete next week at the NAIA National Indoor Track and Field Championships. The final pieces of the national team came together Saturday at the McDonald's II indoor meet at the University of Idaho in Moscow.

 

February 23: EOU students create volcanic science exhibit [EOU release]

Experiencing a volcano in northeast Oregon has been made a reality at Think Link Discovery Museum for children and adults. Students from Eastern Oregon University, along with the help of Union High School science teacher Nod Palmer, have created a volcano, to go along with the earth-science displays.


February 23: Pioneer system installed at Pierce Library [EOU release]
The information age has taken a giant step forward throughout eastern Oregon. From Heppner to Ontario, and Joseph to Burns, 70 school, community college, public and university libraries are now connected via the Pioneer Library System online to share more than one million book titles and other resources at little to no cost.
