Rite of passage — convocation [The Observer]
Why do some portions of the Grande Ronde River meander? Geologists have the answers. But so do the Nez Perce Indians. The Native Americans have a more colorful and riveting explanation than the scientists. A Nez Perce myth about the Grande Ronde River was shared Tuesday at Eastern Oregon University by George Venn, a retired English professor and writer in residence.
New research director splits time between EOU, OIT [EOU release]
People who think commuting a half hour to work should never complain again. Anji Duchi lives in Eugene, but she works in La Grande and Klamath Falls. Duchi, who spent the last seven years working at her alma matter - the University of Oregon - has a new job. The only peculiarity is it is located in three different cities throughout the state.
Students release "Here Comes the Rain" CD [EOU release]
When Jesse Jones met Isaac Callender last fall, the two never fathomed that nearly a year later they would be recording a compact disc together. The two Eastern Oregon University students recently released their first CD entitled "Here Comes The Rain," and radio stations throughout Eastern Oregon have warmly received the country/bluegrass production.
Homecoming 2002 events planned [EOU release]
From golfing to barbecuing, Eastern Oregon University alum will have plenty of activities to participate in during the Oct. 25-26 Homecoming Weekend. The festivities start on Friday, Oct. 25, with the Mountaineer Madness Golf Scramble at 11 a.m.
Rita Monahan Walkathon set for Oct. 5 [EOU release]
The Rita Monahan Memorial Walkathon is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 5, at the Eastern Oregon University track. The event will begin at 10 a.m. Participants need only walk up to seven miles(28 laps). The funds raised are used for scholarships that go to nursing students who qualify for their state board exams.
EOU joins in observing National Chemistry Week [EOU release]
Eastern Oregon University will join the Richland Section of the American Chemical Society (ACS) will observe National Chemistry Week from Oct. 20-26 with several events open to the public. This annual celebration is an opportunity for children of all ages to have fun learning about the chemistry of soaps and detergents. The 2002 theme is "Chemistry Keeps Us Clean." EOU is a member of the Richland Section of the ACS, which encompasses northeast Oregon and southeastern Washington.
