JUNE
June 14: La Grande man rolls over adversity [The Observer]
Kelly Fulfer will not walk across the commencement stage when he receives his diploma on Saturday at Eastern Oregon University. Still, no graduate will stand taller. Fulfer, 37, has overcome a disabling 1984 motorcycle accident to earn a bachelor of science degree in liberal studies. Fulfer might receive the biggest cheer at commencement when he appears on stage in his wheelchair. The friendly, quick-witted student is an inspiration to many.
June 23: Mother, daughter share milestone [The Observer]
Carol Kroll and her daughter, Jennifer, were about 300 air miles apart the morning of June 16. The divide was bridged, however, by a common experience. Carol and Jennifer both received their undergraduate degrees at commencement ceremonies in La Grande and in Eugene. Carol received a bachelor's degree in general studies from Eastern Oregon University, and Jennifer received a bachelor's degree in elementary education from the University of Oregon.
