EOU has hired Stephen Jenkins as the new Director of Residence Life after wishing long-time director Mike Daugherty farewell. Daugherty retired from his position at EOU in 2006. Jenkins will begin work August 1.
Prior to accepting the position at EOU, Jenkins was interim associate director of Residence Life for Resident Education at the University of Oregon. His experience includes leadership development, crisis management, student conduct and conflict mediation. Jenkins has specific skills in substance abuse prevention, sexual assault prevention, student/staff training development and facilities management.
Some of Jenkins’ immediate goals as director include establishing a strategic plan for the Residence Life department to remain fiscally sound, while creating opportunities for growth and expansion. Increasing recruitment and retention of on-campus students is also a priority for Jenkins.
“I hope to collaborate with academic partners to blur some of the distinctions between residential settings and academic life, including creating additional academic programs in the residence halls and encouraging more frequent interactions between residents and faculty,” Jenkins said.
Jenkins holds a bachelor’s of science in social science degree from Boise State University. He earned his master’s of science in educational leadership with focus on policy, management and organization from the University of Oregon.
