La Grande, Oregon – Eastern Oregon University’s art department is ready to help talented high school students interested in becoming artists through the University Art Scholar Award program.

The scholarships range from $500 to $2,000 in tuition waivers and are renewable for up to 12 terms of undergraduate study toward a degree in art. High school seniors who are already admitted to EOU and show promise and skill in the fine arts are eligible for the awards.

Three students received the University Art Scholar Awards last year, two of which are currently enrolled as freshmen at EOU and showing great promise as artists, said Jessica Plattner, assistant professor of art. The third student will begin her studies in winter term 2006.

To be considered students must submit a portfolio of high school artwork. This can include a CD of digital images, prints, slides or digital photos submitted via e-mail. Students must also submit a letter detailing their background, experience and interest in art, along with their application for the scholarship and their online application for admission to EOU.

The deadline for applications is Friday, January 20. For more information or to obtain an application, please call the Office of Admissions at (541) 962-3393 or Plattner at (541) 962-3337. Visit EOU’s art department online at www.eou.edu/art.
