LA GRANDE, Oregon – Eastern Oregon University senior Brandi Brown was named a winner of the 2006 Oregon East Symphony’s Young Artists Competition and recently had the opportunity to showcase her talents as a soloist.
The Nov. 5 Oregon East Symphony concert at the Vert Auditorium in Pendleton featured solo performances by Brown and fellow competition winner, pianist Benjamin Walley of Richland, Wash.
For her first performance as a soloist with the Oregon East Symphony Brown chose to play the challenging first movement of Mozart’s “Violin Concerto No. 4 in D Major.”
“Brandi is a very gifted and dedicated young woman,” said Lisa Robertson, Brown’s music instructor at EOU. “Being a successful musician is not just a matter of talent and Brandi has invested a lot of hours in her life in the attainment of her goals. It’s a pleasure to have her as a student and I know she’ll be successful in whatever she does.”
Brown has been playing the violin for 14 years and has been a member of the Oregon East Symphony for the past five years. She also plays with the Grande Ronde Symphony Orchestra. Her future plans include pursuing a master’s of teaching degree at EOU.
