Tea & Trumpets reception honors scholarship donors and recipients

Scholarship recipients get a chance to
meet with donors to EOU Foundation
scholarships at Tea and Trumpets.

LA GRANDE, Oregon – Tea and Trumpets, a special reception for scholarship donors and students, will be held Friday, Nov. 10 at Eastern Oregon University.

The event brings together donors to EOU Foundation scholarships and the students who receive the scholarships. The students and donors have a chance to talk with each other and several students will speak about what their individual scholarship means to them. The event begins at 2 p.m. and will be held in the Hoke Union Building, Room 309.

Guests will be treated to a trumpet performance and
traditional high tea fare such as finger sandwiches, hot tea and other dainties. The EOU Chamber Choir will perform under the direction of Dr. Peter Wordelman. Wordelman will also perform the trumpet fanfare, which gives the event its name.

Tea and Trumpets was held in May 2006 in recognition of the scholarships awarded during the 2005-06 academic year. The fall event will be for the 2006-07 academic year and will be held successively in the fall each year.

“Tea and Trumpets is one of the ways that we thank donors for their generosity,” said Lyle Schwarz, president of the EOU Foundation.

“Meeting the students shows the donors what a difference they are making by giving to the Foundation. It also inspires the students to be good citizens and help others when they can,” he said.

The EOU Foundation awarded over $116,000 in scholarships to EOU students in 2005 and holds over 85 individual scholarship funds with plans to increase its support to students each year.
