LA GRANDE, Oregon – The first reading in the 2006 Ars Poetica Reading Series at Eastern Oregon University will feature poet Laurie Lamon, who will read from her new book, “The Fork Without Hunger,” in Pierce Library on Monday, Nov. 13. The event begins at 7:30 p.m. and is free and open to the public.

Lamon is currently a professor of English at Whitworth College in Spokane, Wash. Her poetry has appeared in a variety of journals and magazines including “The Atlantic Monthly,” “The New Republic” and “Ploughshares and The Colorado Review.” She is the recipient of the 2001 Pushcart Prize for Poetry for her poem, “Pain Thinks of the Beautiful Table,” as well as a Graves Award in Humanities in 2002.

“The Fork Without Hunger” is Lamon’s first published collection of works. She says that these poems address the subjects of nature, pain and loss, separation and survival, as well as the journeys and the motions of memory and time that can bring people into the presence of love, and the mystery of grace.

U.S. Poet Laureate, Donald Hall, describes Lamon’s poems in “The Fork Without Hunger” as “rare in their perfection of epithet, their delicacy of design...Page after page, line after line, Lamon's language retains its purity, its chastity, its precision.”

Copies of “The Fork Without Hunger” will be available for purchase at the event. For more information contact Cydney Topping at 962-3654 or at toppinch@eou.edu.
