LA GRANDE, Oregon – Eastern Oregon University will host a distinguished visiting academic from the University of Lodz in Poland for a colloquium on Thursday, Nov. 2, in the Hoke Union Building, Room 309.
Dr. Zofia Wysokinska, professor of international economics at the University of Lodz, will be the featured presenter. A reception will be held at 6 p.m. and the colloquium begins at 6:30.
The topic of Dr. Wysokinska’s presentation will be “European Integration-Costs and Benefits of the European Union Enlargement for New Member States of Central and Eastern Europe." She has an international reputation in the area of world wide political economics and her talk will focus on the economic impacts as new states have joined the European Union.
“This is a great opportunity for colleagues, students and the community to learn how important current events are influencing the economics and society of Europe,” said Dr. Marilyn Levine, EOU dean of the College of Arts and Sciences.
Dr. Wysokinska currently serves as head of the chair of World Economy and European Integration, vice dean for Scientific Research of the Economic and Social Faculty at the University of Lodz, director of the Jean Monnet European Centre of Excellence, and head of the European Jean Monnet chair in the affiliate of the University of Lodz in Tomaszów Mazowiecki.
